Guess who watched the "Sound of Music" for the first time in their life 2 days ago. Yep, me. I didn't realise there were so many bangers in that movie. I saw a lot of references to the movie from watching "The Pacifier". "My favourite things", "Do Re Mi" and "Climb every mountain" were classics at home even before I watched the film.
I didn't realise how helpful having knowledge about Austria prior to watching the film was. It is still watchable without knowing the history but the impending doom of the nazi invasion reminded me of another film i watched with historical knowledge. i think it was probably Epic because i got into greek mythology via percy jackson and the quests tend to reference the old heroes, but i can't remember.
i think that a lot of people are like maria von trapp, feeling the call of the mountains or nature. i know i have felt that way ever since i was a child. i thought that gospel music would fully express this "calling" but over time it just didn't hit the same. there was a another feeling that was required to help me understand this feeling: love. maria had a love for life itself and meeting the baron (in my opinion) was the cherry on top for her. the monastery was not letting her be "free" with all it's rules about when and where to sing and i think that works for some people and not for others. in the end, we saw these two worlds working together to flee the nazis which i found quite beautiful.
Overall, amazing film. Beautiful cinematography. Even the high shots that were shot by helicopter were probably revolutionary for it's time. The mountains reminded me of home and i love that the central theme about this movie was not just about family, but the beauty of nature and having a home. I'm not one for nationalism because in this current state of the world it centers around an identity that is still white supremacist and isolatory in nature.
People should be allowed to live where they want to. I think that everyone wants a place that they can call home. I can take a guess and assume that not all austrians were as wealthy as the von trapps were but they would have been happy with an austria that was independent and not being controlled by a fascist. like everywhere else in the world, we have been conditioned to believe that the ultra wealthy are people to be trusted completely rather than an immigrant who suffers under wage labour like 90% of the population.

In the show "white collar", there is a 2nd lead couple (?) that are so adorable it almost makes me forget i'm watching copaganda (kinda like brooklyn 99). there is a youtube video by skip intro about copaganda and the effects it has especially on the american audience (imma add it to my playlist actually). but i don't want to talk about that today.
i love "white collar" because of the wholesome 2nd lead couple and the bromance that neal and paul have. the main character neal is devastatingly gorgeous, his wife/ex-wife/idk in the show is alexandra daddario so it's just super hot couples all round.
i started the show like a week ago so i'm still on season 1 but so far it's good compared to another copaganda show i started watching called "lucifer". i don't know what i was expecting from the show ngl. especially after deconstructing, i realise now that the shock factor of the show was depicting the main evil character from christian mythology as someone who is not actually responsible for the world's evils.
almost like that music video by lil nas x where he twerked for satan. i was in a christian school at the time and my goodness was that the talk of the town. most of us knew he did it because it would trigger the christians and hence generate views because "everyone loves to make fun of christianity but not other religions". (i have come a long way 😭)
